Off Season

Written by Zack on February 16th, 2011

What is the off season?  For me it’s generally between November and March when there aren’t any contests going on.  It’s also a time when it’s ok to miss a couple workouts here and there, it’s a time to be lazy, it’s a time to take a break from the extremely heavy lifting, it’s a time to fatten up a bit,  it’s a time to spend with friends and family just hanging out.  In a way it’s almost like being a normal person…which seems fun for a while, but grows boring.

I’m currently in the longest off season of my life.  My last strongman competition was in October of 2009 and my last powerlifting meet was March of 2010.  I’ve had almost a full year of off season and I’m ready for a change.

For me – It’s hard to get serious about training when there is no end goal in sight.  Don’t get me wrong Josh and I have been working out hard, but not with that sense of urgency like when there is a contest looming.  My original plan got thrown out the window and now I’ve decided I just need to put something on the calendar to get me going again.  So my current plan is to begin training for the Missouri’s strongest man.  It is in June so I have a little over 100 days to get myself back into competition shape and make my return complete.
