Where am I at and what am I doing?

Where am I at?  Well I’ve decided to get back into the sport of strongman and see how my arm holds up and if I can be as successful as I once was.  What am I doing?  I’ve decided to start training for Missouri’s strongest man, which is in June.  I’ve also decided to get into the best shape of my life and try to compete at a weight of 231.

A lot of things going through my head right now…how is my arm? how much strength will I lose by cutting 40#s? do I really want to diet for 100 days? do I really have anything to prove?  They are all very tough questions, and I probably ask myself all of them daily, but in the end I love to train and I love to compete.

I’ve been dieting for almost a month and I’ve lost around 14#s.  I’m taking it slow and I’ve been seeing a difference every week and haven’t noticed a drop in strength yet.  I feel good and I’m not starving, but I do find myself missing the occasional ice cream or cheese burger but life goes on. A major factor in my deciding to cut to 231 was my brother Josh.  He was 205 and dieted down to 145 for his bodybuilding show – rebounded to 170 afterward and his strength is nearly the same as when he weighed 30+ heavier.

I’m in the second week of my new training schedule, and the scary thing is that it seems to be working too well!  Here is what it looks like:

Sunday: AM – Squats, Extensions and Calves     PM – Incline walking cardio 40 min

Monday: Running Cardio 40 min

Tuesday: Event training at Jesse Jobes

Wednesday: Upperbody Pull Day – Back, Bis and Shrugs

Thursday: Stairmill Cardio 60 min

Friday: Deadlift, Hamstrings, Lunges and Forearm work at the Super Gym

Saturday: Upperbody Push Day – Bench, Incline, Shoulder Press and Tricep Work

It is 7 1/2 days but it’s a good mix, and I’m not finding myself run down or fatigued – yet.
